*Rated For: All Audiences
Waypoint: The Summit, Guild HQ (Area 9 Saltmarsh)

Mission Briefing: Escort the visiting Actress from Rockwell to her debut at the Saltmarsh Playhouse (Area 24)

Objective I: "Gentlemen, go to the Taximan's Loupe', on the street below, I have secured you a taxi. I want you to be extra cautious now. Look the carriage over very carefully for taint, or other sabotage."
"Once you secure you taxi, personally drive it to the transit district (the harbor between Area 37 and 36, both major and minor bridges, as well as some of the buildings on the west banks of the Kingfisher River) and find Bay V2A." General Isslor pats you on the back, "I know you'll be able to accomplish this without much sweat. I have confidence in you."

PROMPT 101.VIII.1 The warm summer air still blows in from the sea as the sun sets. The Autumn leaves bury the green grass in a dry bed, as the evening moon peaks it's head out for the view. A shiny black vintage carriage with real silver knobs and handles and long runners stands alone in front of the Temple Fharlaghn.

Feel free to roleplay, and introduce yourselves. For this scenerio Cresctor's animal companion, a heavy warhorse has a role pulling the carriage.

Full of confidence, Jandar approaches the carriage. He inspects it for signs of sabotage or damage, kicking the wheels and making hmm sounds as he looks at various parts of the vehicle. He really has no idea what to look for, but was thinking he would know it if he saw it. He lingers about hoping perhaps that his new friend Crestcor knows how to drive carriages.

Cresctor felt a bit nervous being that this was going to be his first adventure, but he was happy to have Jandar alongside him as he seemed to have some experience. If not, well at least he seemed tough enough to be good in a fight. As Jandar examined the carriage, Cresctor realized he did have a good use in this adventure. Years of riding his old warhorse had given him some experience. "Jandar, I believe I could drive this thing well enough with my horse pulling it. He's a good horse, and will respond to me well enough." He hooked up his horse to the carriage, preparing to drive.

100 XP for each of you. Excellent.

The carriage is driven, from a seat high in the stern, by reins. Passengers ride inside the squat cabin (comfortably overstuffed with leather seats, and scented oil). Though there are mostly youngsters running to and fro carrying buckets, brushes, and sponges to keep the many taxies in good order, everyone young and old seem to avoid this solemn carriage.

Drive DC (12): One must first succeed at a Drive Skill Check to maneuver the taxi through the streets, at times this DC becomes harder, and sometimes easier too, but it can otherwise be done in an untrained manner using the Dexterity modifier of the character.

I need you to roll a 1d20; Cresctor
And add your ride/drive skill (+5) to your roll.
Do you see where your skills are on your character sheet?
This particular skill was only called Ride;
However encompasses the capacity to Drive, as well.
It was possibly an oversight by the concept teams at Wizard's.

"Very good then, you drive and I'll ride shot-hammer. I'm pretty sure we can find the harbor area, after that we may have to ask for directions."

Jandar sets his hammer between his knees on the seat and waits for the carriage to start moving.

( 8 )

Despite having his leading the carriage, Daniel's experience was with riding horseback and not driving a cart, thus he found it more difficult than he expected as he tried maneuvering through the crowd. He tries his hardest to gain control. (I'd like to "take 10")

Jandar lurched back and forth as the carriage moved in fits and jerks. He had thought it would be smoother than horseback, but apparantly it was not so. He was mostly glad that it wasn't him driving.

Taking ten will give you a result of 15 which is sufficient enough to maneuver. Albeit, it takes you quite a while, and i'm not going to reward you with any XP because you stalled the team.
Razz

PROMPT 101.VIII.2-1: On Hearth Street the upper class moves out into the lamplight wearing ball room gowns and tuxedos. This is no ordinary night. With the elections near, Rachelle Welles will have a profound influence on the upper class. Since the Wayfarers and followers of Fharlanghn have so little sway over that lot, the guild has put forth its level best in promoting this evening's show.

Their Gold and Red banners are swayed to and fro by the children, and the adults loiter about the Playhouse and all along the Century Road hoping to see a glimpse of the actress. Florists stationed on building tops have thrown baskets of beads, and wooden toys to the crowds below.

Drive DC (16): The carriage may be forced to come to a complete stop, several times a city block. This makes the taxi prone to compromise. You must make a sucessful drive attempt to proceed to the next prompt.

Cresctor, this time you may not just take ten, and failure is obviously consequential.

Another 1d20 plus drive skill, (+5) please.

Sweat forms on Cresctor's brow as he tries to bring the carriage to a complete halt, but the horses ignore his commands.

Hopping off a moving carriage is not something Jandar had done before, but he had done similar sorts of things, well kind of, well mostly he had an idea about how it would work. While he considered jumping off to avoid the upcoming crash, the opportunity passed him by and he merely braced himself for impact.

PROMPT 101.VIII.2-2: Finding an entrance onto the Hearth Road proves difficult because of all the foot traffic. A waykeeper in uniform is attempting to wave you through a thick mess of folding chairs and sawhorses. But the severe distractions around you impede your best driving ability (at least you're improving). The crowd sets upon the carriage in an instant discerning it to have slowed significantly. They peer through the side windows. “Is she in there?! Will she say something?!”

I need spot checks from both your persons. Try finding 'Spot" on your own, and applying the bonus you find there.

with a 4, Jandar spots nothing that he was supposed to be looking for, there is however, an attractive young lady with a nice dress that his eye falls upon.

Spot DC (15): A middle aged man wearing a brown and pinstriped white tailor's hat comes too near the taxi for comfort, pushing his way through the fans. He is carrying a brown paper parcel, about the size of a wash basin. He dodges any attempts at being deterred and can fairly easily be chased away (Intimidate DC 12).

With all the people around the carriage, Cresctor was beginning to worry. Cresctor noticed the suspicious looking man coming towards them too, only causing him to worry more. He pointed the man out to Jandar, "Over there, I don't trust that man, perhaps you could keep him away while I see to the passengers." Cresctor got off the carriage and started yelling at all the people around to back away. (Intimidate: 5 )

seeing the man that crestcor had pointed out, Jandar lets loose a war cry and swings his hammer around his head hoping to cause him and anyone else in the area to step aside. If the man should go for the door of the carraige, Jandar has resolved that the man will not be getting that hand back.

Intimidate DC (11) The mass can be intimidated to back off from the carriage.

While the people listen to your brute intimidation skills a little better then they do your reasoning (diplomacy) I reiterate;
Quote :

He is carrying a brown paper parcel, about the size of a wash basin. He dodges any attempts at being deterred and can fairly easily be chased away (Intimidate DC 12).
I was going to say that Jandar could attempt to now, but he posted while i was. However, neither of you two are quite intimidating enough. He fastens his brown paper bag to the carriage, and then fairly expeditiously he removes himself altogether without the effort on your behalf. The mass, though;

Since Jandar DID sufficiently pass their difficulty class for intimidation - they remove themselves a little suspiciously, but enough so that you may attempt another drive skill. I think they were just a little surprised to see his big ass get out of the buggy rather then the actress they were suspecting.

1d20 + Skill Modifier, please

(17+5)

Cresctor jumps back in the driver's seat and directs the cart to the right where Jandar had cleared the crowd. The trip from there was smoother, and the horses finally responding more easily. He turns to Jandar, "We need to do something about that suspicious bag the stranger attached to the carriage as soon as we can."

jandar has a look at how the bag is attached, deciding it would be easier to rip the paper than untie the knot, he tears away at it while staying alongside the carriage. His hope is to leave the unwanted gift basically unopened on the street. If he managed to succeed at that, he'd hop back into the carriage...

Ummm, let's consider that a skill of balance, Ok Jandar? To dislodge the package we might imagine that it's attached by a buckle to the hind end of the taxi and you must maneuver yourself outside of it, upon the runners i suspect.

Roll a Balance check, DC 5 because Cresctor's dice roll reflects that he's driving pretty capably now, and at a good rate of speed.

the paper should rip easily, but then the jostling of the carriage and the uneven nature of the pavement made this harder than it looked (rolling a 3 modified -3) Jandar is unable to keep up with the carriage and dislodge the package. Whatever happens next... he meant to do that Rolling Eyes

Very Happy Yes, so;

PROMPT 101.VIII.2-3: As you cross the Anwyn bridge the warm fog from the river below provides a discouraging perspective. It seeps along the banks of the southern side, and creeps toward the looming spires of the transit district. Zeppelins, and other watercraft are inching to and from the crevices in the steel monster called our inner city.

Bumping and riding along at a brisk pace, Cresctor, and minding your passenger, Jandar takes a bad step on the runners, and tumbles under the buggy.

I need a spot check from each of you, and a reflex save DC 8 (because it's a little hard to maneuver yourself so you fall where you like) to avoid getting run over by the wheel.

Can you find your Reflex, Will, and Fortitude saves on your character sheet, Jandar?

rolled a 19+1

Jandar gracefully rolls preventing himself from either getting run over or breaking any bones. He's on his feet quickly, picks up his hammer and chases after the carriage, staying directly behind the carriage until he's close enough to run alongside again.
