PostSubject: The Encounter at Preacher's Bone Levee   Sat Mar 12, 2011 11:58 pm

One day on the road, Hearth, that goes out of Saltmarsh and toward the bayou countryside south of Saltmarsh two people happen to start walking near or beside one another. The strange thing was, they both wanted "strawberry colored hair". They probably looked at one another queerily after they did a second time.

Cresctor was walking down the road Hearth, not sure exactly where he was going. To be honest, he didn't care where he was going as all he wanted was to get a breath of fresh air and see nature away from that dirty city. When he saw a fellow strawberry blond haired person, he smiled and waved. He wondered where she was going and if she maybe had need of an adventurer, so he asked. "Afternoon, going any place in particular? Maybe you need help? Us strawberries need to help one another out if we can."

Luck had been wandering the area concentrating hard on tossing her breakfast grapefruit in the air and catching it. So far she was up to seven hundred and three consecutive catches. Alas, as the strawberry-haired stranger addressed her, it diverted her attention enough to miss.

"Curses!" She yelled, shaking her fist at the sky.

"Well, now that you mention it, I'm bored. Wanna hang out for a bit?"

Cresctor wasn't the type to hang out with people, but he was bored so figured he might as well. "Sure, I was considering going into the swamp, I figured it might be fun to look for a few lizards or such there. Um... I'm not sure if thats something you would be interested in though."

Up ahead looks like a nice place to rest. A park, on the outskirts of Preacher's Bones township.

Where Hearth meets the crossroads out at the Preacher's Bones town the road takes an inconvenient turn for the worse. A sturdy levee that keeps the salty crags of beach below makes it difficult to proceed without a balance roll.

Balance DC (6) Or fall down the levee attempting to cross into the Preacher's Bones town.

Good luck Cresctor, he's got a -3 and Luck just happens to be nimble, having a +4 modifier to her balance skill. Look at your character sheets and try to find the skill balance; and discover how i came to these conclusions.

i like for players to show their math when they role. So get in the habit of showing me your own modifiers when i ask you for a balance roll.

Well, Luck just happened to have a good knowledge of Lisard and their folk, she was a bayou girl, and grew up defending herself against Lizardfolk robbers, and thugs all her life. In fact, she knew well enough how to hurt one. And to think now that in Saltmarsh, area 22 right next to frog park there was a Lizardfolk embassy.

6-3=3

Cresctor begins to lose his balance over the levee and starts to fall down the levee.

Can I use a reflex roll to try and grab hold of the ledge?

"I was headed towards the swamp myself." Luck's eyes blazed at the thought of hunting lizards and she secreted her grapefruit away into one of her numerous pockets for later consumption and leaped effortlessly over the levee. (7+4=11)

Make a Reflex roll, Luck. DC 10 Because you're pretty nimble, and have steady feet. If you make your reflex roll you might catch him, can you find your reflex modifier on your character sheet?

(14+4=18)Landing on the other side, Luck reaches back and manages to snag Crestcor's arm before he falls too far.

A marvelous job, but just then a hungry alligator waddles out from the sea grass, eyeballing you as his prey. If you want to take hostile stances toward the alligater, say "let's roll initiative";

If you want to engage in wild empathy traits, or reason with the alligater, scan your character sheet for alternative methods of dealing with the alligator.

Cresctor examines the alligator and confidently tries to calm it down.

Of course, because alligators snatch baby children in the bayou.

The alligator settles down rapidly, sizing up it's two medium targets. It retreats a step or two toward the freshwater side of the levee. But just then four kobolds bearing pails on their heads and stab at everything with javelins come tramping toward the beach/levee making a lot of noise and hissing excitedly.

For they are unaware, they become surprised when the alligator snaps twice at them!

The DM rolls twice. The alligator missed both times. But now the kobolds are aware of the situation, and begin barking at you threateningly.

Luck hurtles herself at the Kobolds, yelling a war cry.

9+6 = 15

The Dm Rolls twice. The alligator goes first, then Luck, and then the kobolds go, and so lastly does Cresctor.

The alligator moves five feet toward the kobolds, bites one and does not let go, then retreats fifteen feet into the river. As he does, he moves within five feet of you both. This poses an attack of opportunity for you. You get a number of these per round equal to your dexterity modifier.

If you'd like to you can try to stab, or mame the alligator/kobold ... thing. Twisted Evil

They both have an armor class of 12

Luck misses, but then regains her footing and takes her turn. She can move thirty feet (see your speed?) and attack once a round, she can take a full attack and do that 1.5 times a round; or do everything virtually possible in six seconds.

Luck rolled twice. She got a twenty, and a five. Her critical hit was a failure so she didn't do critical damage, just normal damage. The first time she hit. She stabbed the alligator/kobold once doing 2 points of damage.

And then she ran 30 feet away.

The kobolds scream at their comrad, provoking the alligator, but to no avail, for the only place for them to crowd the alligator to was the river where they could not swim.

Three kobold move thirty feet back into the sea grass swamp beyond the levee.

good job. get in the habit of posting the link to the spell like i do:
Entangle

Careful not to get too close, well done on that: 100XP
This spell has a good radius. A good portion of swamp suddenly erupts into wretched green trees and rolling roots in a 40 foot radius.

Round two: The alligator retreats to the riverside. It's Luck's turn again.

Luck draws her bow and notches an arrow.
7+5 = 12
She hits for 5 damage and draws again.

15+5 = 20
She hits again, this time for 8 points of damage.
